Tour 7 Hampshire

Colemore House, Colemore, Nr Alton

Separate garden areas within a framework of hedges and walls create a series of rooms. The mirror pond is overlooked by a thatched pavilion, approached through interesting trees and shrubs. Inside the main gardens are herbaceous borders, a white and blue garden, a long rose arch path, peony beds and a swimming pool garden.

Brocas, Ellisfield

The garden is the quintessence of English gardening, rising to a crescendo in June. The glory of the garden is the walled rose garden. Arches are covered in R. ‘Rêve d’Or’, borders filled with a profusion of shrub roses (‘Fantin Latour’, ‘William Lobb’ ‘Jacqueline du Pré’ and ‘Complicata’), accompanied by billowing masses of Campanula ‘Pritchard’s Variety’, Salvias, peonies and Nepeta.

Clover Farm, Shalden

This elegant garden has wonderful view across the gentle Hampshire landscape. Steps drop to a jet-black circular pool, almost surrounded by curved yew hedges. Yew hedges form a long vista into a square garden planted with Rosa ‘Chandos Beauty’.  From here the eye is carried down an avenue of limes, with a wild-flower meadow, crossed by diagonal mown paths.
