Irish gardens come in all shapes and sizes, but there is rarely a duff one. Enthusiastic gardening, taking advantage of the often acidic soil and the abundant rainfall, has been a feature in Ireland for centuries. Today, these gardens are filled with interesting and desirable plants and gardened with huge knowledge and great generosity.
In this five-day tour, based in Dublin, we will visit two spectacular houses at Castletown and Russborough and a wide range of gardens, all but two privately owned. We will see gardens in Dublin, travel south into County Wicklow and west as far as Abbeyleix. We will visit the extraordinary collection of trees and shrubs at Mount Usher, explore a garden designed by Lutyens, and enjoy gardens created by the best of today’s Irish gardeners including Jimi Blake and Arthur Shackleton.
